Who We Serve

Retirement Planning for Houston Energy Professionals

Engineers, geoscientists, and executives across the energy corridor share a common set of planning problems. These are the ones we work on most.

Concentrated company stock

Years of grants and purchase plans can leave a large share of your net worth in one employer. We look at how much concentration your plan can actually tolerate, then build a disciplined, tax-aware path to diversify over time rather than all at once.

Savings and pension plans

Energy employers offer some of the most layered benefits in Houston: 401(k) with company contributions, after-tax and Roth options, deferred compensation, and in some cases a legacy pension with lump-sum or annuity choices. Each decision interacts with the others.

Severance and early-retirement windows

Reorganizations are part of this industry. When a package appears, the decision window is short. Knowing in advance what your number is — and how a severance year affects your taxes — turns a stressful choice into a straightforward one.

Bridging the years before 65

Leaving at 55 or 58 means covering health coverage and income before Medicare and Social Security begin. Which accounts you draw from in those years has a lasting effect on lifetime tax.

Tax-efficient withdrawal order

Pre-tax, Roth, and taxable accounts each behave differently in retirement. Sequencing withdrawals — and considering Roth conversions in low-income years between retirement and required distributions — is where planning is most valuable.

Legacy and estate strategies

Texas has no state income tax, which changes the calculus on gifting, charitable giving, and how you pass assets to the next generation. We fold this into the plan rather than treating it as a separate exercise.

Independent, and on your side of the table

We are an independent firm, which means no proprietary products and no sales targets pointing you toward one answer. Our role is the same one we describe on every page of this site: we are your advocate.

We also do not do cookie cutter. Two engineers at the same company, the same age, with the same balance can need very different plans depending on family, health, stock basis, and what they actually want their sixties to look like.
